What is the thing that makes you most different from the rest of the world? Maybe it’s your personality, or your unique sense of style. Or maybe it’s what others have made you into. But whether you hold one of these differences, or if you think you are like everybody else, independence is what makes us, us. The feeling of being totally free to be yourself. Knowing that there is a difference between you and the person next to you.
Ardwin, a 12 year old boy, cursed by his wicked stepmother. Turned into a swan, to live in the wild for 6 years. When the spell is broken, the left wing of the swan still there, he must choose to listen, or ignore the crude comments of the harsh real world. Being normal is the biggest challenge of them all.
Sometimes, in this world, being normal is the biggest challenge of them all. The normal at the moment may not be the same normal tomorrow. Things change, people change, the world changes. But through it all, you are still you. To be cast out, told that you are something that you are not. It hurts. It bruises the heart, until bruises become cracks, and cracks become breaks, and the heart is no longer a whole. But in different pieces. Each piece goes out to one person that bruised it. And the heart that is wounded shall never be mended. But, Ardwin, in this situation, went with his heart, and ignores the crudeness of the real world, and accepts his wing. After all, it defines who he is.
Independence. One word that defines who you are. It may mean something different to you, than it may mean to someone else, but all the same. A moral to the story, the story that is everyone’s life some time or another, is the care and self respect for yourself. Not how the opinions of others affect you, but how the impact of your opinion affects you. How you picture yourself, as a heart, as a whole.
This essay seemed very deep to me. It wasn't forced, and it didn't seem like you just took a bunch of facts and put them all into writing form. It really made me think about how I see things. Next time, you might want to include an author's note, though.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that advice Olivia. You always know what to say. <3
ReplyDeleteI really liked how strong this was. As Olivia said, this wasn't forced and has a creative awesome voice.
ReplyDeletethanks Meg, your a great friend. <3
ReplyDeleteThis was a very strong essay. You had lots of voice throughout this piece. Independence does seem like an important part in this book and in reality.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really wonderful essay. You have a unique style of being very casual, and gentle with a really serious topic, treating it with respect and humor at the same time. That is a beautiful quality. I enjoyed reading this very much.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Mr. Johnson! That just made my day! ^_^!
