The Dark Side of "Tangled"

Author's Note:I looked up the name "Rapunzel" and it turns out it means 'Herb'. So I looked up other names that mean herb, and came across Althea. I thought about the floating lights in Tangled, and automatically thought of the Northern Lights, also professionally named the Aurora Borealis. I thought that the light show would be a good way to put a twist on the movie. And Alaska just seemed like the right setting.

"Althea? Althea!"
These were the last words that I heard before my transformation. My transformation from beautiful girl; into beautiful legend.
The day was as any other; cold and wet. The only thing to look forward to in Alaska was the one day that was today. Today; just happening to be my birthday, was the grand lights festival. On this day, the whole village went on an enormous boat to see the best view possible of the Aurora Borealis. Of course while everyone was preparing for this day, no one could possibly remember my birthday. So every year on this day, I would shut myself in my room and read books. It was the most fun that I would have, and the only time I could get to myself, anyways. But this day would be different. This day would be the best, and worst day of my entire life. I just didn't know it yet.

As I lay in my bed, (half asleep from reading so much)I heard a loud noise. I quick looked out my window to see a huge fire. Only it was the strangest thing, for the fire was not on land, but on the water! I didn't understand, until I realized it wasn't the water that was on fire, it was the boat.

  1. This piece was interesting and different, I like that. Also, it's nice that you researched the names. The Author's Note clears a lot of things up.

  3. This is such a cool piece! I love how you put Aurora Borealis as the lanterns. This is much more interesting and funny than the usual essay. Keep writing this great!

  4. It was really cool how you looked up Repunzel what it meant and then other names that meant that so they would be related. The second part is cool and mysterious and I liked it.
