Yes, Ardwin remembered, this is the way swans like to travel. A tailwind can make even the longest and riskiest flight possible. It was a good sign.
This is a passage from my book. It takes place right before the main character; Ardwin, is about to take a long journey with his two best friends, Stephen and Skye. They must leave his father's kingdom, before it happens. It being his father's plan to sever the only thing that makes Ardiwn himself. His left wing. Cursed upon him at the age of 12, he was turned into a swan by his wicked stepmother. Who was also at the time, queen. Him and his 5 older brothers, all turned into swans, escaped to a nearby cottage. Abandoned, their only hope was to contact their oldest sister.
The curse was finally broken, 6 years later, one year for each brother. The magic shirts, woven from nettles and starwort, the sharpest and most poisonous plants in the forest. Once the 6 years were up, and they were thrown over the brothers. The curse was broken, but Ardwin was left with one wing, because of an incomplete shirt. The missing left sleeve, and in its place lay a left swans wing.
His father, the king, has a plan to cut off his wing, and when a mysterious king sends over some of his soldiers to befriend the king, there is talk around the village of a condition. the condition soon found out by Ardwin, is to replace Ardwin's wing with a golden artificial arm. Ardwin must flee to find his sister's hidden castle in the forest. before the king and his men find him, and his wing.
