Everything At Once

As sly as a fox, as strong as an ox
As fast as a hare, as brave as a bear
As free as a bird, and neat at a word
As quiet as a mouse, as big as a house

All I wanna be
All I wanna be Is everything...

As mean as a wolf, as sharp as a tooth
As deep as a bite, as dark as the night
As sweet as a song, as right as a wrong
As long as a road, as ugly as a toad
As pretty as a picture, hanging from a fixture
Strong like a family, strong as I wanna be
Bright as day, as light as play
As hard as nails, as grand as a whale

I wanna be
I wanna be
All I wanna be
All I wanna be
Everything...
Everything at once

As long as the sun, as silly as fun
As cool as a tree, as scary as the sea
As hot as fire, cold as ice
As sweet as sugar and everything nice
As old as time, as straight as a line
As royal as a queen, as buzzed as a bee
As stealthy as a tiger, smooth as a glider
Pure as a melody, pure as I wanna be

All I wanna be
All I wanna be
All I wanna be
Is everything
Everything...
Everything at once.

The Woman in Black

The Woman in Black

Watches through the aged ridden window

What did they see?

Photos burned

Children….. Vanished

Secrets written in blood

Vague hints and mysteries

Roam the home

Shes anticipating your arrival

Not a swell convene

You don’t know why you are there

She is waiting…

But yet you are there

Her hot breath steams on the glass…

Curiosity gets the best of you…

She watches as you are pulled by the invisible force, into the house…

She grins…

She cackles, slightly

You don’t know what is here

Who is here…

Why… she is here.

But you are about to…

The Great Python

*AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is my figurative language essay. My goal was to write a good conclusion. Please comment! Thanks you guys!*

“With the brass nozzle in his fists, with this great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world, the blood pounded in his head, and his hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history.” Everyone knew that books were to be burned. They knew this, and it didn’t bother them. In fact, they enjoyed it, especially the firemen.

Ray Bradbury’s classic novel, a twisted not so opposite government world, where
Books were not to be read, but destroyed. In this particular quote, the description of the fire hose as a “great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world” is great symbolism. Python’s are snakes, and in Greek mythology, and even in The Bible, snakes are a symbol of evil, and trickery. The snakes poison on the books, or the hose’s kerosene, “blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history” could be a symbol of death. Later in the book, books are described as white doves. Doves are a symbol of peace, innocence, and life. Since all books are banned, it’s like the government is banning life itself, their goal is to isolate all of civilization.

Snakes and doves would not be such good friends in the real world. Fire and books are basically allies in Fahrenheit 451. This irony says that in this book, the government wins, and civilization will never be the same.

Run Over

*Author's Note: This is a creative story about a woman named Erica who can see and talk to ghosts. This is one of her encounters. My goal here is to conquer the voice factor, and have good word choice. Please comment with your advice! Thank you.*

Her breath caught, as she saw him standing there, sunlight dancing in his eyes.
"Who are you?" she whispered.
"Don't… remember…"
"You don’t remember?"
"She…. Used to call me… Kyle."
"Kyle.. How did you die?"
And just like that, he dissipated. Erica left the little shop on the corner after work, and started home. It had been a long day. She got into her worn out white Volvo, and drove down the street, onto the dirt road.

She had been driving down the dirt road for only a few minutes, when she felt her tires go over an extremely large bump. She slammed on the breaks in a panic, and swiftly opened her car door, jumped out and looked back to see what she had hit. Or who she had hit. When she looked back though, there was nothing there. The road was smooth, and black as the night sky.

She got back in her car, worried, and scared. As she continued to drive thoughts and memories rushed through her head. She remembered the first time she had ever spoken to a ghost, and how normal it had felt for her. How she dreaded waking up in the morning now, knowing that she will have to see another, and talk to another, and help another.

The headlights on her Volvo flickered, and two hands appeared just above the grill of the car. Scratching and clawing at the white paint. She screamed a scream so shrill and full of terror she was sure she would go deaf. She once again, slammed on the breaks. She screamed one more scream, and breathed heavily. She looked over the dash of her car, and through the foggy windshield, but there was nothing there; only the rest of the road in front of her. She knew that something was very wrong, and for the last time, she pressed the gas pedal ever so gently with her foot, and trudged home.

Opposites Attract

*Authors Note- This is my Christmas Carol Essay, please comment and give advice! Preferably on my conclusion.*

In Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol”, the humble Bob Cratchit; a poor old man with a big family and a big heart, worked for the evil and arrogant man, Ebenezer Scrooge. Cratchit, on top of his troubles, had a son, Timothy Cratchit, but the family called him Tiny Tim. He was a cheerful boy, who sang and enjoyed going to church, but of course he was ill. In fact so ill he was going to die. Bob, being the poor man that he was, could not pay to have the boy cured of his sickness.

When Ebenezer is visited by the “Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come”, he sees that Tiny Tim passes away, and Bob, with tears in his eyes says,”Life is made up of meetings and partings; that is the way of it.“ This shows Scrooge that if he does not change his ways, death could be a factor of his greed.

This quote has an important irony to the book. All of his life, Scrooge was a man of business, he had no time for foolish nonsense, and that included family. Back when Scrooge was young, his older sister died during child birth, leaving behind only one nephew to him; Fred. Scrooge never spoke of Fan, although she was his elder sister. When it came to Fred he often ignored him, and otherwise shooed him away, always counting his money in the process. So when it came to “meetings and partings”, Scrooge just liked to pretend that they were never there. After all, he had more important things to do than fuddle around with family.

So in a way, Bob Cratchit and Ebenezer Scrooge were very much alike, in the logical sense. Maybe that is why in the conclusion of the book, Scrooge and Cratchit become friends, more like brothers? It’s funny what can happen when humble meets arrogant. I guess it’s true what they say, opposites attract.

Point of View Essay

*This is my point of view essay, in the perspective of Miranda's little brother Johnny. I am reading the book "Life As We Knew It" by Susan Beth Pfeffer.*

Lunar Disturbance

May 18th

“Are we going to die?”
“No, we are not going to die! Don’t you ever say that again! Do you hear me Johnny? We are all going to be just fine. We are some of the most fortunate people in the world right now. We are not going to die.”
Mom sounded so scared. I could see that she wasn’t so sure that we weren’t going to die. After she saw the meteor hit the moon, I knew immediately that she was worried. I didn’t know what to think. I didn’t know how my life was going to be changed. I didn’t know how the world was going to be changed.

All I could think about was tomorrow. Was this real? Would the moon just be gone in the morning? Can I skip school tomorrow? After I thought about that I started to think that this wasn’t such a bad thing.

May 19th

School wasn’t canceled today. All of the electricity was out. It comes on from time to time. But the moon is still there, almost as big and bright as the sun. A storm started at about 3:00 this morning, and it hasn’t stopped. It was weird being at school. It seemed empty, because there was hardly anyone there. Even though the thunder and lightning were loud, the school seemed so quiet.

May 20th

I didn’t have any homework last night. So I was pretty much bored out of my mind without electricity. So I went to bed at 7:00. Now it’s 4:00AM and it’s raining. Will this be my life now? Are we going to die?
